Field Notes

Description:

About an inch / 2.5 cm long. Hairless and therefore jellylike shiny larva, in shades of orange underneath, leaf green overall and finely speckled in black. A serrated skirt over orange prolegs. Pointed appendage on tail. The tail is flexed up to raise said appendage while area around head is curled and puffed up in defence (stance observed but not depicted). Very round shiney, dark head.

Notes:

Found on ground under eucalypt but when returned to tree fell off it. Possibly in final instar before metamorphosis. Didn't stay put in any place.
