Field Notes

Description:

Defensive behavior of this "lizzard?" poses as a snake, it moves slowly and it even has a snake tongue.

Habitat:

Oak forest in mountain range

Notes:

We found 2 that day, and a friend of mine had seen one a few years back in the same area. It tries to pose as snake. Watch the slow motion video where you can see the tongue. Please tell me what is it.

Thank you S Frazier for the ID and the link. I really likedthis spotting
Range is right for Barisia imbricata. Many photos match the head and coloration but show quite a short tail. This may be coincidental (regenerating tails?). The suggestion link, the Reptile Database, photo specimen has a long tail.
I think it is a aligator lizard, can anybody else confirm?
