Description:
I added this to the mission" Identifying Animals thru Osteology"
This mission is good for CSI lovers !!I can name some!!Pyoung,Cindy,Karen,
Antonio GinjaGinja !!
I found these remains in the pond which I visit regularly. The remains were on a stone in the pond. 100 to 200 ft inside the pond.
My guess is that they are the remains of either a goose or a duck. To narrow it down, judging from the size of the neck bone,it could be a duck.
The questions are
1 Who ate the bird?
2 Name of the bird?.
3.How did the bird get on this stone?.
4.Did the bird die of natural causes?
This is what I think happened.
A dead bird was found on the side of the pond. It was shot by bebe guns. I found pellets under the picnic table. The bird was then dragged by a raccoon to this stone. Raccoons can swim. they like to douse their kill in water.
i have never seen a bird of prey here.
It would be to heavy for a bird of prey to carry this kill to the stone.
Habitat:
local pond, plagued by incidences of animal abuse.
Notes:
Today feb 17th , I saw a turkey vulture circling around this area, This confirms the presence of predatory birds.
Spotted after a month of the spotting. The bones are still there.
Picture number 3 shows the bird in air.
Turkey vultures are known to feed on dead animals mostly
Picture number 4 shows the yellow and black and white duck which has been missing since that day. He and the black duck and abuff one were constant companions and they swam together ,dived together, bathed together ,they had so much fun!
