Karen,you nailed it. It is very likely that the waterfowl was eaten by a Turkey vulture!! I saw one circling above this area. This is my first sighting of a vulture in this area.

Karen,very similar to what you saw in the NrongoroCrater. Elephant skulls of animals meeting the end gracefully. Ducks who are sick ,finding a safe place to meet their end!!

I talked with the maintanace person. He was saying that he knows all the birds in this pond since they have hatched. One in six chicks survives. According to him ,the ducks around here live upto 6 years on an average. He said that an arrest had been made for the Duck shootings. I told him that I saw a few more dead after the arrest. He siad that some ducks become sick at this time of the year and die of natural causes. I told him that we were deeply mystified by the remains on the stone. According to him, a sick duck sometimes chooses to come out of the water and lie there. So looks like ,we have an answer. The duck on the stone died of natural causes . Thanks for your input.

pyoung,you show me one study,there are as you know many other studys that prove the contrary.i'am not an american detractor,i love america and is very diferent and variated people,but the criminal rates of USA are much more higth than european community(CEE).When i talk about cowboys,it's joking a litle,not ofensive,however you must read more about the subject, and another writers opinions not only the ones that defend the weapons...i'am surprise that you think the weapons bring less violence, that's no logical,every body knows that human been is violent if you give him more destructive power... the result is in stastistics,countrys whith more weapons spread in the common population have more violence and dead.but it's ok, i dont want to make this subject a theme here in noah,i know that in USA there are a big division on this discussion between american people and many of them think like me:)i'am a non violence defensor.

This is private property ! So chances of reaching those remains is slim. i called the officer in charge ,but he has not replied yet.

If they don't have guns, they use knifes. I looked at the information on the internet and I feel ,that there is a lot of propaganda spread by the "European press". (I also think its wise to research the studies yourself). I don't believe every thing I see on the news. Most of it is propaganda. And a lot of it is bias and unfairly stereotypes Americans as cowboys, particularly since the 1980s. I have been to Europe and I am familiar with this stereotype. I think this causes other cultures and countries to distrust us based on what the media reports. And America is a big country, just think, are there cowboys in Hawaii and places like New Jersey? @pyoung,from outside,in a european vue,the facts cant be denied,more guns more violence,here you can have defensive only whith special permit and we have a very low criminality,there it's the cowboy way:)i realy think that only when you restrict the guns possession you can have rates of criminality like us.but i respect the felling of those who think diferent and are in the growd,maybee if i lived there i can have your opinion:) @Emma it's not possible to go to the rock in a rubber boat cach the remains to see if there is any thing from where we can deduce what hapen?

Karen ,that sounds like a good idea,but in all these days,I have never seen a duck or a goose sitting on that stone. Occasionally I have seen a small turtle,sunning. I have seen a snowy egret and Great Egret on the stone at the edge of the pond . Never on this stone. Maybe the fact that the stone is in the interior of the pond has something to do with it. Vulture eat already killed animals. But like i said , I have not seen any birds of prey in that area. Which again does not mean that we should rule out this possibility. Emma, I think you nailed it too! I guess the other alternative is the 'vic' was shot on the stone island & something (raccoon, vulture?) ate it there! I agree with p.young too .

Maybe the duck was shot from a distance. I support our constitutional amendment that citizens have the right to bear arms in America. Antonia. But I think people who abuse animals have very serious problems.

No alligators. Have not seen any birds of prey either. This is far off from Mt Diablo,where all the birds of prey lurk.
