Field Notes

Description:

Long slender black/gray snake
this particular one was about 5 to 5 1/2 foot long.

Habitat:

Range: It is found throughout mainland Florida and the Florida Keys. Outside of Florida, it is found throughout the eastern United States from northeastern Texas north to Minnesota and east to Maine.

Habitat: Commonly found in pinelands, hardwood hammocks, prairies, sandhills, scrub, and cypress strands.

Notes:

While walking to my favorite birding spots I noticed what I thought was a piece of rebarb sticking out of the road. As I approached, was I surprised to see Mr. snake.

yep @jackeenngg - loves to have its portrait taken but you must be quick :)
Very nice images... It seems typical to get is one head shot before it "races" away.
What an awesome find and great timing on the photograph, Mary! Thanks for posting this!
...and here I was worrying about walking through tall grass!!. Great spotting and lovely pictures of a truly slender snake. Don't know much about these but they must move fast with a name like "racer"!!
Looks like he is checking you out!
Wow! Usually i am used to squirrels popping out of burrows! Talk about a snake!! Fascinating indeed!
