Description:

Adult Description

Medium-sized, slender heron.
All dark.
Long neck, bill, and legs.
Bill dark.

Immature Description (photo is of a Juvenile )
White, with pale, black-tipped bill and greenish legs. Enters adult plumage in the first spring after hatching and may be pied white and blue.

Habitat:

Swamps, estuaries, rivers, ponds, and lakes.

Notes:

This was taken while floating down the Wacissa River in a rubber boat. Nestle Water wanted to come in and suck the water from the springs (for bottled water!) which feeds this river - I wanted to get photos of all the nature and wildlife that this 'draining' would affect. Due to several of us fighting against Nestle and showing all the wildlife it would affect - Nestle Pulled Out!!!
