Field Notes

Description:

This snake's most obvious feature is its pointed, upturned snout. It has a yellow to tan body color with dark blotches down its back and round spots along its sides. The underside of the tail is light and the anal plate is divided.

Habitat:

Wooded hillsides, fields, and sandy areas

Notes:

I couldn't get any dorsal shots of this snake, as it would not stop feigning death. Every time I would turn it over, it would roll back into this pose :-)

My second favorite snake. Such a great picture. I can never get them to fake death and we work with them quite at bit at the nature center.
Fantastic shots! It deserves an academy award for that performance!
Wow, that is amazing! Quite a survival instinct.
