Field Notes

Description:

Caught this guy and his friend in several locations today up and down the creek. His friend is a snowy egret. "Snowy" will have her own spotting series. The duck friend that appears in picture 4 is a mystery to me. Not sure what kind he is.

Habitat:

Water areas

Notes:

The Great Egret (Ardea alba), also known as the Great White Egret or Common Egret, White Heron, or Great White Heron is a large, widely-distributed egret. It is sometimes confused with the Great White Heron in Florida, which is a white morph of the closely related Great Blue Heron (A. herodias). Note, however, that the name Great White Heron has occasionally been used to refer to the Great Egret. - Paraphrased from Wiki

That would be a great addition to Birds of Texas mission. http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/10490109
Thanks! I was lucky to catch it.
It does look mallard-ish. I wasn't sure myself. I was working the zoom lens on this and wasn't close enough to ID well.
Manaswini it looks like a mallard duck.
What is that bird at the back in the 4th photo?
Wonderful series Kat!
