Description:

the Sibley Field guide to Birds: Uncommon. Usually in small flocks on wooded freshwater ponds.

Habitat:

Nests in marshes, especially those with wooded edges. Dives in shallow water for plants and seeds.

Notes:

I added a picture of a mottled duck for size comparison.
