Phlebopus marginatus
Phlebopus marginatus
-37.894, 145.311
Field Notes
Description:
A true monster of a mushroom - so big it made us laugh - (800mm across) brown topped mushroom with short thick stipe, pores underneath, (severely attacked by 'bugs').
Habitat:
Suburban nature-strip, grassy.
Notes:
Couldn't get a camera shot of stipe because it was too short and I didn't want to break the whole thing. I partially broke away a small section on the side to get the under shots 4&5. Shot #5 is a close-up of the damage by 'bugs' from underneath. Couldn't find any of these creatures though (without digging). The whole thing had a very dense rubbery feel to it - would probably have weighed several kilos.
