Field Notes

Description:

Male green hummingbird with a gray chest, spots on underside of tail and a brilliant purple capped head and throat. The brilliant colored feathers hang low on the sides creating a hood look seen in the fifth and sixth image. If the light isn't hitting it just right, the head appears black as seen in the fourth image. The video shows it moving around and you can hear its call in the beginning. In flight images can be seen at my other spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8520717

Habitat:

Resting in a Lemon and orange tree in backyard.

Notes:

This is my first spotting of this species in the area.

Thank you Gerardo. This bird was amazing to watch with it's colors shining as it moved.
Has anyone ever seen a Costa's with this shade of purple? I've seen the bluish/purple but not this one before.
