Field Notes

Description:

In the natural world, raccoons snare a lot of their meals in the water. These nocturnal foragers use lightning-quick paws to grab crayfish, frogs, and other aquatic creatures. On land, they pluck mice and insects from their hiding places and raid nests for tasty eggs.

Raccoons also eat fruit and plants—including those grown in human gardens and farms. They will even open garbage cans to dine on the contents.

Habitat:

North and Central America

Notes:

This raccoon was a regular visitor to my suet feeder and not bothered at all when I came close to photograph him/her.The raccoon baffle obviously didn't help.

Thank you. Only the squirrels have been going after this feeder now.
LOL - I actually put food out for the 6 that visit my yard, it tends to help keep them out of my bird and deer feeders. Wonderful photo of this mischievous little guy.
They are indeed! But last year the raccoons left the suet feeders alone. This year, there is one squirrel that manages to jump over two baffles and get some but all the other baffles are working!
Great shot! We've had to give up putting out suet blocks for the birds as our raccoons steal them feeder & all! They are so tenacious!
