Description:
Part of the Vespidae Family of narrow waisted brown wasps, these many individules have been photographed in what appears as a holow in the wooden roof of a doorway. All species in this familly build papery multi-celled nests of wood pulp and saliva. In this case, the wasps are bunched together in a pre-hybernating state which is understandible with the weather in the Western Cape being very cold this year.

Diverse range from urban areas to open landscape.
Notes:
Like our closest weather neighbour, Perth WA, rain falls in winter as the Southen Polar jetstream weakens and alows "polar" cold fronts to approach the continent as the usual over head high preassure cells weaken. The weaker the jetstream, the colder and wetter the winters are (Usually in normal or La Nina Years).This year we had snow falling on mountains and sleat / hail falling in the city.
