Field Notes

Description:

Floating white flower,6" wide, made up of many pointed petals surrounding a yellow center. Leaf is round or heat-shaped, deeply notched, toothless, shiny green, floating leaves 5-12" wide.

Habitat:

Spotted near marsh/pond area near South Tamarac Lake.

Notes:

Leaves float on the water's surface. It requires quiet water because it is rooted to the lake or pond bottom. Its stems and leaves have air channels that trap air to keep the plant afloat. Flowers open on sunny days and close at night and on cloudy days.
