Field Notes

Description:

Black (very black) lumps, some 1 to 4 cm in diameter, growing on the underside of a fallen tree. Gelatinous on touch, round or irregular in shape.

Habitat:

On a fallen log in a mixed forest, hills in a valley between Jura mountains and Geneva lake.

Notes:

Thanks Machi for correction - I wrongly IDed this one as Coal Fungus before.

Yes I know that Exidia glandulosa and Exidia nigricans are possibilities but I'm afraid I don't know much beyond that.

Thanks Machi once again - I went back to the spot and found this fungus again. Indeed, it does look more like Exidia sp...

And more aggregated I believe too... You are probably right, I'll look to it. Thanks Machi

Zlatan, these looks more like dried up jelly fungi or something else. I think Daldinia is usually more spherical right?
