Field Notes

Description:

This bee is most likely an Africanized Honey Bee. The majority of Yucatan honey bee populations now include many colonies with intermediate morphologies. Beekeepers of the Yucatan prefer these hybrid bees because they produce more honey than European honey bees. The Yucatan is the largest producer of honey in all of Mexico and a main global producer. Yucatan honey is in high demand because of its purity & high quality.

Habitat:

Spotted on Snow Squarestem (Melanthera nivea) on a coastal dune.
