Blue tongued lizard
Tiliqua scincoides
-37.8994, 145.319
Field Notes
Description:
(Immature) - 150mm long, distinctive blue tongue, short small limbs, pale under, mottled-striped black and brown top.
Habitat:
Suburban back yard.
Notes:
This little blue-tongue went into an aggy pipe drain tube. It only just fit. I was very concerned for it because the tube went 20 metres into a hillside and it would be unretrievable. Two weeks later it came out backwards; much thinner and face covered with cobwebs and bits of arthropods. I offered it some goat milk, cheese and pieces of fruit which it enjoyed immensely. Then I covered the pipe end. It's now a permanent resident in the garden keeping the snail population down.
