Arboreal Termite Nest

Arboreal termites consume damp wood off the forest floor. They construct covered pathways on the underside or shaded side of tree trunks & branches between the ground and their nests. These tunnels protect these slow moving termites from predators while traveling back & forth. It is common for parrots to destroy these nests by using these nests for their own, forcing the termites out.
Arboreal termites are important recyclers of wood debris in the tropical jungle ecosystem.
