Field Notes

Description:

A very long leaved (2mts) succulent with grey-green rosette of leaves which end in a spike.

Habitat:

Has become naturalised in Australia as in many other countries. Native of the Americas - arid zone.

Notes:

I could not help but take pictures of this widely known plant because, I was amazed at the pale grey impressions on each leaf made by the outer unfurling leaves - almost like batik, with the waxy coating !!.
Also, impressive is the unfurling inner leaves with the spikes along the margins. I felt it was a great example of leaf architecture and the sheer strength of these succulents !

Incredible leaves. Maybe we need an 'Art of Nature' mission.
