Field Notes

Description:

The Alpine ibex is a species of wild goat native to the European Alps. In its habitat region, the species is known as bouquetin (French), Steinbock (German), and stambecco (Italian). The species was virtually hunted to extinction in the 19th century, and has now recolonized many alpine regions. An extraordinary climber, it occupies steep rough terrains at high altitude.

Habitat:

Rocky regions along the snowline above alpine forests, from 1,800 to 3,300 metres (5,900 to 10,800 ft). These animals were spotted at about 2500m.

Notes:

You are often alerted of the presence of these animals by the sound of small rocks falling down cliffs. The first 4 shots show a male, the fifth a female

Thanks Luis! These were actually right next to where my latest picture at Mountains, hills and rock formations was taken :-)
Thanks Mona and Yuko. At higher altitudes, the sky trends to darker colors; here I also used a polarizing filter.
Spectacular series! The blue color of the sky is unbelievable.

Thank you Ashish and Arlanda! At higher altitudes, the sky trends to darker colors. Ashish, indeed I did enjoy seeing these animals greatly. As you can guess you get alerted to their presence by the sound of falling rocks, and it's a thrill to finally spot them.
Very nice spotting Daniele
The shade of sky tells quality of clear weather... Great spotting..!! Daniele you must have enjoyed this shooting..!!
Thanks AzriAzmi! At higher altitudes, the sky trends to darker colors. I didn't even need to use a polarizing filter!
