Field Notes

Description:

Also referred to as the Rufous Night Heron. "The Nankeen Night Heron is a stocky heron with rich cinnamon upperparts, white-buff underparts, a black crown, and yellow legs and feet. The head is large, the neck short (giving a stooped appearance), and the legs relatively short." (Birdlife Australia - http://birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/Nankeen-Night-Heron )

Habitat:

Roosting in a tree growing amongst the rocks at Adcock Gorge.

Notes:

We had gone for a swim (there was still plenty of water considering the lack of rain previous wet season) and I had looked back up into this tree and saw this bird! Of course, it was much harder to find when I got out to try and take a photo but I did get a pic at least enough to identify it :)
