Old Mallee-fowl mound
-35.4846, 142.008
Field Notes
Description:
An old Mallee-fowl mound. Males build a mound during the winter and then fill it will a mix of sand and organic material, after the eggs are laid he adds a top layer of sand for thermoregulation.
Due to the amount of organic matter required malle-fowl need long unburnt mallee to nest, due to recent wild fire and the Victorian Governments annual 5% burning regime, very little long unburnt mallee remains.
