Description:
Net-Winged Beetle: I went outside in the afternoon, and I saw an orange and black beetle, resting on a wall, on the outside of my house. This beetle had two, serrated antennae. Each antenna had 11 segments to it. The color of the two antennae, is black. It has a head, thorax, and an abdomen. It has six jointed legs, and two compound eyes. It's top wings, are orange and black, in color. It's top wings, had vertical grooves on them. It's six jointed legs, are also black in color. It's lower wings, was also orange and black, in color. Underneath, it had a black abdomen. Order: Coleoptera ( beetles ) Family: Lycidae ( net-winged beetles ) Genus: Calopteron Species: C. reticulatum These beetles, can be identified, by there thick, orange and black bands, on there wings. This beetle, has a body that is constructed in segments. Additionally, there legs and antennas, are also segmented. Another aspect of these beetles, is that they are able to fly. This beetle, is also considered a detritus feeder, because it also feeds on plant juices. Calopteron reticulatum ( 9.5 to 18.0 mm ), is somewhat triangular, flattened, and bright orange and black. Antennae black, flat, and saw-toothed.

Calopteron reticulatum, is an arthropod, that commonly inhabits dead, decomposing wood. It also utilizes wood, as a food source. It also has been known, to live within forest litter and soil. They can also be found, in logs and plants. They live in inhabitants, where they are able to fly. These beetles, can survive in habitats, ranging from humid and wet, to warm and moist. They can also be found, in boreal forests, temperate grassland regions, and tropical regions. In geographical terms, this beetle has been found, in portions of the United States, as well as in the tropics. Eastern and Central United States. Moist woodlands and adjacent meadows.
