Field Notes

Description:

This Cat Gecko got its name for the way it curls up its tail, like a cat. It is also the only species under the genus of Aeluroscalabotes, and its the only genus within the sub-family of Aeluroscalabotinae.

First time to see this Gecko on a night walk but when I asked the Park Ranger for the ID, he told me it is fairly common. Still, am happy to see one.

Habitat:

Tropical forest, can be found in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia.

Belated congrats Albert. Great looking gecko!
Congratulations Albert, this remarkable gecko is our Spotting of the Day! " Named for the the way it curls its tail, this Malaysian Cat Gecko (Aeluroscalabotes felinus) is our Spotting of the Day! The cat gecko is the sole species in the genus Aeluroscalabotes, and the only genus found within the subfamily Aeluroscalabotinae. This gecko is nocturnal and semi-arboreal, and has small opposable, retractable claws that help in climbing branches and twigs".
