Field Notes

Description:

Tremella aurantia is a species of fungi in the family Tremellaceae.
The common name of this species is Golden ear.
T. aurantia is identical in appearance to Tremella mesenterica, (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8307898) but parasitizes the mycelium of Stereum hirsutum instead of Peniophora.
Besides, it has basidia which are stalked instead of sessile so they are clearly different species.

Habitat:

Open forest with pine trees and Holm oaks

Notes:

Notice that the fungi that is parasitized is Sterreum hirsutum, the small orange mushrooms around
