Habitat and Location left blank intentionally due to their endangered status, however these young RCWs were found in a Long Leaf Pine forest and were handled by certified and qualified Wildlife Agents/Biologists...wish I could have held one...

There is a state forest near my house that they live in also. I'm hoping to go it soon to have the opportunity to see these unique woodpeckers.
They just banded the chicks, the adults were not captured or anything, they just flew around and were angry at us. :P Couldn't get a photo of the adults sadly.
Did they just band chicks or were they also catching adults in mist nets?
It was! And they showed us some of the equipment used to monitor and track them, pretty cool actually.
It must have been fascinating to watch them banding these tiny chicks!
