I saw ashen ferns in hills in Riverside county...I think, the fern is this genus only..

Thanks for these Cindy, I love this genus! They're often poikilohydric, like the resurrection fern, capable of withstanding almost total desiccation! Apparently there are ten species endemic to California and I don't know how many others that are native but found elsewhere.
