Jagged Ambush Bug
Phymata fasciata
25.7397, -80.31
Field Notes
Habitat:
fields, gardens
Notes:
These small well camouflaged bugs, with their mantis like front legs, normally sit in ambush on flowers. I had spotted them once unintentionally at this park and managed to take some poor pics. I had been looking for them ever since and about a year later I got lucky enough to spot this "pretty gal" depositing her eggs on a leaf. (I realized this only when I got home, with the naked eye the eggs were just a tiny brown spec on the leaf.)
