Field Notes

Description:

Normally mantled howler monkeys are all black, with a touch of reddish toning on the shoulder. Due to inbreeding of this troop, Goldy(and a sister before her) are an all over gold-red with pale face and feet/hands(which differentiates her from A, palliata palliata, and A seniculus). She has been unable to carry an infant to term. We had been told that they hadn't seen her for several months and were hoping she was still with her adoptive troop - having been kicked out of a previous troop. I never could get a photo of her with other members of the troop. I also found that I was able to get more pictures of her that were clear than with regular howlers

Habitat:

In the forest next to Cano Negro

Notes:

I had a previous spotting of Goldy, but found a couple better pictures that I had taken - note the foot hanging down in 2

I am very much in withdrawals from our trip. Imagine my surprise when yesterday we spotted a caracara near the California/Oregon border. Made all those memories flood back!
I have a great photo of this rare Howler Monkey. I took the Cano Negro tour last week and was able to capture this beautiful Howler Monkey sleeping on a limb. Carol
Christy, it was either her or her sister - but probably her! That's really cool to hear from someone else who saw her. Gerardo, I love that picture too. I'll do it and see what others say
Very neat! I also spotted what must have been her in Cano Negro - 2010 - I've got a picture of her on my page...your pictures are more vivid than mine. Great spot!
This is a grate spot I recommend to put your 5 photo in first place.
