Dusky or Sooty Grouse (formerly Blue Grouse)
Genus Dendragapus
43.6546, -110.718
Field Notes
Description:
I saw this next to a parking lot at the top of a low (relatively) mountain in the Tetons, within Grand Teton National Park. My friend told me it's a blue grouse, but then I found out that the dusky and sooty grouse have been split into two species, so I'm not sure which it is...from what I looked up, the sooty has yellow eye wattle but a yellow air sac, and the dusky has a purple/red air sac but red wattle...so neither seems to perfectly fit, but I really don't know what I'm talking about in iding birds.
Habitat:
mountainous habitat in the Tetons of NW Wyoming
