Field Notes

Description:

brown striped bird with black ruff; struts and then freezes to "disappear" in the background. This neighbor feels the drive is his and regularly blocks my car. Flies only in short flights, about like a chicken would.

Habitat:

coastal rain forest, sticking to ground level and pecking at things in the duff, under spruce, hemlock, fir and alder.

Notes:

I tried to chase him away from my car, and he did a fascinating dance to avoid me, but I didn't have the camera going, darn it.
