Description:

Possibly Tenthredo varipicta, but I can't be sure. This particular insect was about 1 cm long (.5 in). Yellow and black with the red abdomen.

Habitat:

I found this insect on a cow parsnip at the edge of Bowman Lake in Glacier National Park in conifer forest.
