Longicorn Beetle (exuvia)
Phoracantha semipunctata
-37.8991, 145.311
Field Notes
Description:
50mm long, 15mm wide, typical grub tail end with signs of 4 pairs of legs, the other end (head?) smooth, large tapered pair of covers? rougher textured sections on tips. 'Head' end split on one side to release the 'beetle'. The whole exuvia is honey brown as typical of dried keratin.
Habitat:
In a tall and healthy looking eucalyptus (Corymbia citriodora?) this was embedded directly into a snug fitted hole with only the 'head' protruding.
Notes:
This thing had me really puzzled. It is the 'Common Eucalyptus Longicorn beetle.
