Description:

The white form of the Reef Heron is commonly found in tropical zones and restricted to coastal regions around Australia. The slate blue form is found in more temperate regions, although the two overlap in distribution and do interbreed. Also known as a Reef Egret. Plumage white, bare green-yellow skin on face, yellow beak and eyes, upper mandible can be slate grey, legs grey or yellow-green in colour. Male and female similar. Height to 75cm. Voice is a loud croak.

Habitat:

Coastal Australia and also through the Pacific, also in Japan. Favourite haunts include reefs and shorelines.
