Field Notes

Description:

Pieridae; Pierinae; Cepora aspasia anaitis Eschscholtz 1821.According to pictures in Philepidoptera, this specimen appears to be a female. "The Pierinae is a group of butterflies in the family Pieridae (order Lepidoptera) that are named for their white wings with black marginal markings. The adult butterflies have a wingspan of 37 to 63 mm (1.5 to 2.5 inches). Sexual seasonal dimorphism in pattern and colour occur in many species." https://philippinelepidopt.wixsite.com/butterflies/pieridae-pierinae.

Habitat:

I spotted this female Orange Gull in a rice field about a month after the rice was harvested. There was a plethora of wild plants and grasses and this little butterfly was enjoying itself, it looked like it was tasting everything in sight.

Notes:

There is a very good example of this Cepora aspasia anaitis in Project Noah - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1296006006
