Field Notes

Description:

Small uniquely colored/crested diving duck, which, like the Wood Duck nests in tree cavities, with the young dropping to the ground when they are just a day old. The female is all brown, with a bi colored bill and the male has a sharply defined pattern of black white and rust. During fall migration you often see families together, with male, female and young staying together

Habitat:

Notes:

There was one male, and at least 4 that were either juveniles or female.

Me too. This group was in a city park, and taking the cues of the other ducks including resident domestics. beyond their shyness, is the problem of light reflecting at the lens and creating washed out spots.

Good shots... I've had horrible luck getting pictures of this species. They're very shy, in my experience.
