Unidentified Cicadellidae

Field Notes
Description:
Unidentified Cicadellidae "A leafhopper is the common name for any species from the family Cicadellidae. These minute insects, colloquially known as hoppers, are plant feeders that suck plant sap from grass, shrubs, or trees. Their hind legs are modified for jumping, and are covered with hairs that facilitate the spreading of a secretion over their bodies that acts as a water repellent and carrier of pheromones." Wikipedia
Habitat:
These Leafhoppers were spotted during a "bug hunt" in the local hills, just a few kilometres from our house. They were on a mass of unidentified foliage by the wayside. The elevation was between 150 and 200 feet above sea level.
Notes:
I hesitated and thought twice about uploading the wider picture as it is hard to see the tiny hoppers, but I felt it might be significant to demonstrate that there were two specimens within a few feet of each other (that I could see) and there may have been more in this habitat.
