Otospermophilus beecheyi
46.8841, -120.785
Field Notes
Description:
This was a fairly large squirrel with a long bushy tail. The coat was gray with a silvery cast, especially around the neck. This one was checking the area for predators. They use their tail to signal others if they see a predator.
Habitat:
Spotted at a nest or den site which was looked like a pile of wood debris (seen in pic 3). Typically they live in burrows that they have dugout. I assume their burrow in under the wood debris. Along the Auduban Road in eastern Washington. Cascade foothills. Around 2000 ft. a.s.l.
