Field Notes

Description:

Black head with a white triangle shaped patch on either side. The back of the duck seemed to have white and black stripes, and the stomach was white with a black stripe. This one was the male, there was also a brown female. Both birds were very shy and incredibly fast, no matter how quietly I tried to creep up to get a closer shot they shot off over the water when they saw me.

Habitat:

Rye Nature Center, wooded conservancy near a stream.
