Field Notes

Description:

This is a nymph of a planthopper possibly from the Lophopidae family. See a similar form here http://www1.dpi.nsw.gov.au/keys/fulgor/indo/species/zlobulat.htm

Habitat:

This spotting on an orchid in a large semi-urban yard/garden adjacent to a disturbed remnant patch of forest.

Notes:

The first photo shows the planthopper facing away from the camera. Those long appendages are NOT antennae.

Some sort of appendage present only in the nymph stages...
My first thought was antenna - what are they?
Wow! This could be one of those Japanese robots.
