Field Notes

Description:

We were hiking when we found this little ball of spines. Off course it was scared and wouldn’t reveal its face. However, when everyone had left and I had stayed still for about 5 minutes, it started to uncurl and then slowly walked away into the bushes.

Notes:

I am not so sure about the scientific name. Its look and range matched, but I don’t have enough data to be certain. So, I’d appreciate suggestions.

Thanks KarenL. It’s good to be here. I did a bit of research on these two species. Paraechinus hypomelas habitat is almost every part in Iran except the very part that I find my specimen in. Besides P. hypomelas is a desert hedgehog and has big ears, while mine doesn’t have big ears and the place where it lived was not a desert.
Very cute! Possibly Brandt's Hedgehog Paraechinus hypomelas as this species' range includes Iran. Welcome to Project Noah zhabiz!
