Field Notes

Description:

Usually 30mm long but incredibly stretchy.
Grey and maroon, lightly speckled, with a three-part dorsal track of cream.
The underside is paler but all colours can vary with the angle of light.

Habitat:

Found under a large wet log in an outer urban back yard along with another geoplanid species and many other small creatures.

Notes:

A new species to me and slightly less common than some others in these hills.
They prey on woodlice, small snails and slugs, other small arthropods everting their stomaches to ingest externally.
https://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:1…

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

Slimy things but they sure are pretty, especially under a flashlight. Haven't been able to nail down the classification for those here yet. Thanks for sharing this Mark.
