Fun fact! Fly eyes have the fastest visual responses in the animal kingdom, but how they achieve this has long been a mystery. A recent study found their rapid vision might be a result of their photoreceptors - specialized cells found in the retina - physically contracting in response to light. Thanks everyone. @carlabrauer, I used a Nikon D40 but with different lens setups: For the first and third photo i used reversed 18-55mm kit lens. On the second photo, a 55-200mm vr lens with reversed 58mm minolta lens. The inflight shot was taken with the 18-55mm lens alone mounted normally. The video was taken with the Panasonic HDC-HS300s coupled with a handheld reversed 58mm Minolta lens. Here are some photos of my setup: http://www.flickr.com/people/prodigi/
