Field Notes

Description:

Lycaenidae; Lycaeninae; Polyommatini; Zizina otis oriens Butler, 1883. A cosmopolitan group of small, delicate butterflies, many of which exhibit iridescent or powdery blue dorsal wing surfaces, especially in males. The hindwings of Polyommatini tend to be evenly rounded. https://philippinelepidopt.wixsite.com/butterflies/lycaenidae-lycaenina…

Habitat:

These Lesser Grass Blues were all spotted in the overgrown grasses and foliage in the backyard of the rice mill.

Notes:

I am pretty sure that the specimen with wings open, showing the upper wing surfaces, is a male. The males (according to Philippine Lepidoptera) have a much more powdery and iridescent blue colouring on the upper wing surfaces.
