Hi, It looks like one of the most common white butterflies in the Western world at least, the Cabbage White. The caterpillars eat plants in the cabbage family. They were imported, unintentionally, into the United States and now exist in every state. See for example https://greennature.com/new-jersey-butterflies/
Thanks Daniele and gratography...I am going with Pieris sp....at least the spotting now has a genus name till I can figure out the species epithet. Many thanks to you both.
Hi gratography! Cabbage White can refer to the Small White (Pieris rapae), or the Large White (Pieris brassicae). Which one are you suggesting?
