Crocus Giant Clam
Tridacna crocea
6.95127, 125.729
Field Notes
Description:
Also known as Crocea Clam, Crocus Clam, Boring Giant Clam, Burrowing Clam, and Dwarf Giant Clam.
This is the smallest of giant clams. They feed on plankton, and grow to a width of about 10cm.
Habitat:
Found in small cracks and fissures on shallow reef flats, at depths of 2 to 20m. Widespread in the Indo-Pacific region.
Notes:
I spotted this giant clam (still a juvenile, though) at a depth of less than 20 feet. I sure hope it gets a chance to grow to maturity!
