Field Notes

Description:

Hesperiidae; Hesperiinae; Pelopidas mathias mathias Fabricius 1798. I think this is a female P. m. mathias, but there is always room for self doubt. There is a very similar ssp. in the same Genus, it is the Common Swift - Pelopidas agna agna Moore, 1866. So if anyone can offer any advice on this one, I would be grateful. Of course, I realize that one picture is not much help, but who knows? Advice is always welcome.

Habitat:

Spotted resting on a leaf of Paper flower (Bougainvillea spectabilis) in our front yard. This plant is very common here and it is locally known as Bogambilya.
