Field Notes

Notes:

This juvenile Red Tailed Hawk was released from The Birds of Prey Foundation (www.birds-of-prey.org) a couple years ago. Because they receive so many birds, I don't know his specific story, only that he was either injured or abandoned as a fledgling. First-year hawks are fairly clumsy, and they were commonly admitted to our facility after being hit by vehicles or running into things. At the release, he flew from his box and landed on a post...and just sat there watching us and his surroundings!! It was wonderful! Thanks! We were releasing him from rehabilitation. He was just scouting out the area before taking off on his own for the first time!
