This animal actually found in Malaysia
It looks similar to a komodo dragon however they are found on only some Indonesian islands, so i'm stumped. The only other thing i can think of is the water monitor, small one here http://goo.gl/P8MBw
I found this animal in front of my house!!! :D
wow, it's huge
It just looks like a Monitor was crossed with a Rhodesian Ridgeback :) (look at that lined back)
Very strange to see a monitor that is not clouded or water monitor in Malaysia, especially as KL is not near the Thai border. Saying that it doesn't look like either - maybe it got lost!
Yes, I checked the nostrils, too - plus the dark colorization of the nose tip and flanks of the jaws. Though the only one found of a color like that within this region.
I think the nostril is too close to the end of the snout for V. bengalensis. See the diagram on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengal_monitor
Most likely a Bengal Monitor - they are spread form Iran to Thailand withj various shades of color from greyish to rust...
This is a monitor lizard (Varanus sp.). I can't say I've ever seen an orange one (in SE Asia...)
