Description:
The male is a gray quail with a black face and curving crest. It has brown and white on wings. The female (last image) is brown with a brown crest. The tracks can be seen at my other spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/209666079
Habitat:
Top of rock in chaparral along trail at Daley Ranch. C.c.plumbea's range is from San Diego to southern Baja Mexico.
Notes:
This quail is the state bird of California. It's ground-dwelling and is very sociable, usually seen in small covey's. There are seven recognized subspecies of C. californica.
This series is out of order. The pair of quail were both on the rock (5), then the female flew away (4). The male posed (1), positioned himself toward the females new location (2), then flew away (3).
