Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful multicolored moth about 1.5cm across. Its head and thorax are a rust color. The forewings have dark and light bands across them. There is one eye on each forewing. The hindwings are light at the basal and marginal interspaces. The ventral side of the wings have white and black bands.

Habitat:

Attracted to porch light in Oak Woodland / Chaparral transition habitat. This species is found in the western half of Canada, US and Mexico.
